That weekend became Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, now in its 13th year and currently staged at the Meritage Resort. Culbertson is no casual host. He plays nearly every instrument on the stage and has built one of the most decorated catalogs in contemporary jazz, nearly 30 albums and more than 40 Billboard number one singles. The Getaway is helmed by his team at WORKS Entertainment, it now anchors a circuit of Getaways reaching Chicago, New Orleans, and this fall, Hawaii. What started small now draws thousands of fans a day who treat a concert like a tradition. This weekend’s lineup says everything: The Ohio Players, Will Downing, Jonathan Butler, Marcus Miller, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, and The Family Stone. By day, the Wine Downs pour Napa’s best wineries for the room while VIP guests slip off to private tastings across the valley. Then the stage takes over at night. It fills our hotels, pours through our wineries, and quietly powers one of the biggest weekends of the Napa summer.
