@space.pirate18: Lastnight, China landed their moon rocket booster in a new snatch & grab system. here's a demonstration of how it works, and why its terrible for booster recovery efforts #China #NASA #longmarch10
SpaceX reusable rocket failure rate 5 percent, Chinese 100 percent. SpaceX , uses 10 percent more fuels, due to heavy landing gears. SpaceX’s landing gears has to be replaced with every mission. The lowest section of SpaceX rocket can only reuses 5 times, whereas Chinese rockets can use upto 30 times. SpaceX landing gears is very unstable, high risk of failure.

i think its not the final version at all, more of a test if it works at all and for small launchers i dont see an issue with it

Let me guess: it's less efficient mainly because SpaceX fandom says so?

I’m interested to know your opinion. Since you mentioned Gall’s Law, wouldn’t the Chinese have considered this before proceeding? Or perhaps they simply weren’t aware of it?
Suppose they developed this approach because of technological limitations, yet it still works. Could they continue improving its efficiency and effectiveness over time? If so, and if it proves to be a lower-cost alternative to SpaceX’s approach, could this ultimately turn out to be the better technique overall?

Guess what, they did the same as Elon with 1% the budget and in 1/100 of the time, a catch is a catch

It’s literally more efficient. Less margin for error, cheap.

This is just their first trial, they would identify teething issues and learn from it. I dont think its fair to expect perfection ok the first try

Elon Musk laughed a long time ago when they asked him about China’s EV. But now, Elon is no more laughing as China’s EVs have overtaken Teslas in global sales numbers

That's a genius system, to use wire!! Might have a few teething issues but it worked successfully yesterday in China though.

Ok I’ve read the comments and your replies and I’ll summarise your point and give you come counter points to consider, first you say it’s a wire system. So what? Wires can be used to catch them, they offer in built suspension and all the rocket to sway if the stand is at sea. A Falcon can only land on a barge if the sea state is good also several boosters have been lost when the barge encountered bad weather and fell over. Second you say the stresses on the rocket are all wrong. Not if it’s been designed for it like the BFR is with it being caught by the tower. There are other issues you mention but the mere existence of the falcon, BFR and Blue Origin designs show carious ways to catch or land them.
