Honestly I mostly see this in the western world. Any country with a smidge of culture, show at least a little bit of interest in things that are challenging.

I think the backrooms movie was a perfect example of this because it didn’t spoon feed the answered to you it made you think about it and when it came out online there was a lot of discussion about many people didn’t like it

Loved the discussion, but the “superhero movies aren’t Oscar-worthy” and “pop stars aren’t creative geniuses” part felt unnecessarily elitist. I agree with most of your points, but it feels contradictory to call out judgment while also creating a hierarchy of art.

I'm with you 80%. The 20% I disagree with is that enjoying pop music and superhero movies is somehow less than. I think that well-rounded people can have intelligent discussions about new surrealism, relevant fiction AND the new Spider-Man movie.
