@kinderwell2: Talking about puberty can be awkward, but it's essential for parents. Erections are a normal part of a boy's development, yet often go unexplained until they happen. A calm conversation now can prevent future confusion or shame. Children don't need all the details at once. They simply need honest, age-appropriate answers they can trust. Using correct terms for body parts helps reduce embarrassment. If they ask, answer simply. If they don't, gently start the conversation. Remind them that erections happen randomly and are nothing to feel guilty or embarrassed about. Also, teach that some body functions are private, like using the bathroom. Knowing what to expect helps children avoid panic or feeling like something is wrong. These talks build confidence and provide accurate information, not take away innocence. Every family approaches these topics differently. The aim isn't a perfect talk, but to become the trusted person your child feels comfortable asking questions. Parents don't need to know everything, just be willing to listen, stay calm, and keep the conversation open. #PubertyTalk #ParentingTips #BoysHealth #OpenCommunication #ChildDevelopment

To add, this is really a conversation that a FATHER should have with his son(s). Mom is good too if a father figure isn't in the picture. But if dad is there, this is his area to cover. Same applies to mom's & daughter's.

I'm not telling my 8 year all of that, I understand using clear and factual terms about penis health and male anatomy but everything else is a bit too premature to be discussing with an 8 year old.

My son had always had erections since he was an infant, mostly in the morning when he woke up. Nobody warned me about that so you can imagine my face of horror when I first saw it 😂😂😂

lol as a guy, I don’t remember having conversations like this. I think parents are the ones that’s embarrassed and they the kids are too young.

When my grandson was 7 we had a very interesting conversation on female reproductive things. He has a book. He is now 8 and last weekend said girls handle pain better because of their periods. He’s going to make a good husband.

To correct, erections happen from birth. Its not a developmental stage at some age or other. Its there from the beginning.

my 6year old boy and he was embarrassed about it but since I told him that "it sometimes stretches itself, especially in the morning, that its very normal & nothing to be ashamed of and he's not the only one going through it, everyone who has "it" thats what it does. He's been confident and acting normal now

When my son was about 13 I got a tattoo on my head. To manage the pain of it I got some numbing cream prescribed but the only thing we could get it prescribed for was premature ejaculation so my (long suffering) husband had an appointment with a private doctor and had to tell him he had PE. About 4 weeks later we were in the car with my son and my husband asked to stop so he could run into the pharmacy for something so I shouted at the window at him ‘DONT FORGET THE PREMATURE EJACULATION CREAM’ to which my son asked me ‘what is that’ I explained it was cream to make men maintain an erection and he soberly said ‘why would anyone want to maintain an erection, I can’t get rid of mine’ poor love. We ended up having a very wholesome chat about ‘the teenage years’ for boys and what to expect. It was very funny but very informative.

When my kids hit puberty milestones, I (mom) would explain whatever it was. Periods, wet dreams etc. I framed it like this “This means you are healthy and your body is developing and functioning EXACTLY as it should. This is a good thing”. Also let them know the same things are happening with all their friends, but it’s okay to keep this info to yourself. It’s other parents responsibility to tell their kids when they think the time is right.
