Lots of misinformation in the comments. Haaland was not "raised in England". He was there while his father played for Leeds United only until he was THREE years old. This is not a sufficient explanation for his English fluency. Would it have been good for me to mention in the video? Yes. Does it undermine the argument of the video? No.

I had a classmate who was an exchange student from Norway in 11th grade. She spoke more fluent than some people that I knew that grew up here in the US.

You cite the origin of the languages being similar as a reason, but also point to Messi, Ronaldo, and MBappe as players who don’t speak much English. Those players all speak romance languages which are way closer to english than Norwegian. You’ve contradicted your own point

Old Norse also had a huge influence on English because the vikings invaded our country. 20% of our 5000 core words that we use daily are directly from Old Norse. They also shaped our simple grammar, because it made it easier to communicate with each other. Haaland's accent probably sounds so good because he plays for Man City. You can often hear a very northern twang in his voice, which i love as northerner myself.

It’s also important to mention that in norway we have been teaching English in school for a longer period than say France or Italy. It helps to have some at home helping you with homework when learning a new language

Yeah, we don't dub, but we also start learning english in first grade. Also, one of our written languages are quite easy to learn, but we have 1300 dialects in Norway. They can differ so much, that people wouldn't be able to understand each other if they don't use an Oslo-like dialect. Some even gets subtitles on TV. So even though you'd be able to write Norwegian, no one actually speaks the written language, and it would still be hard to learn to communicate effectively with all of Norway. Just the way to say I has huge variations based on where you grow up (Jeg, Eg, Æ, I, Æg, Je - to name some).
