yoga as an exercise is a very miniscule part of what yoga actually is. you are absolutely right there is a very large part of it missing from the mainstream. so no Lululemon didn't capture yoga better.

You were absolutely 💯 right. I thought your video was spot on. A lot of white people don’t understand that criticism about white culture (and the pain of our spiritual homelessness) isn’t a personal attack

IMO, this is the problem with religion. Spirituality doesn’t need anything; you can talk a walk or spend time with another person or just sit. Being present, enjoying the moment, knowing that it doesn’t matter if I’m white or something else because that’s not the real me. The real me is consciousness. We’re all the same. Thanks for the video.

white people don’t understand how white colonialism stripped european migrants of their ethnicity and cultural practices to make them “white”. that includes whitewashing other religions to make them more palatable and/or pushing white christian nationalism. you’re obviously speaking about something in a really specific context and they don’t get it. thank you for addressing this. we need to have honest conversations about what makes white people feel the need to engage in cultural appropriation. that includes religion too. the erasure they went through to assimilate here definitely has made it so many people feel culturally and spiritually “homeless”. white colonialism is bad because it impacts white people too. people need to be more nuanced instead of getting offended.

Dang. As a Metro Vancouver 🇨🇦 person who *actually knows* what a horrible person Chip Wilson is, elevating HIM as an example of “white ppl good” 🤢 is a repulsive & ignorant comment which absolutely does NOT advance that commenter’s intended argument.

I agree with you. The problem is that you put race. Specifically white, as in white colonialism is bad. No, colonialism is bad no matter what race.

Isn’t this also due to the fact that Christianity erased the spiritual beliefs and many cultural elements from white people? Weren’t many cultures polytheistic and had rituals and festivities related to nature? Christianity erased most of that? And then the comverted white Christians did that to people of color too through colonialism later on.

Why do you make it an issue of "white colonialism"? This applies to all cultures, whether white or not. By your own reasoning, Islam could also be considered a form of cultural appropriation of Jewish culture, since it was not created by Jews or by people who had lived within Judaism, but by Arabs who took the culture of another people, arabized it, and turned it into their own religion that is, at times, even hostile toward the very people from whom they took that religion. Consequently, by the same logic, it should be criticized for taking Jewish teachings out of their original context and "Arabizing" them without understanding the Jewish context from which they originated. And, as far as I'm aware, Arabs were not "white Westerners." lol. Why then don't you talk about Islam as "cultural appropriation " that have no respect for the people whose culture was stolen and decontextualized? Oh, maybe because they aren't white and from Western. lsialm is an example to say that what you say is valid for all cultures, it is not a phenomenon only for white people, but you use double standards

Of course white ppl can practice other religions its just most of the time its a christian reskin "you're not a true...." . Then they misrepresent it in popular culture in a copyright kind of way compared to how ppl indigenously practice it. Theres gonna be growing pains and weirdness at first.

Is Soto Zen a stolen and deformed version of Dharma practiced and populated by the Buddha Sakyamuni in VI century b.c.e? Obviously. Does the original form of Buddhism sill exist. No. Religions are in public domain, they cannot be stolen.
