If you’re throwing it in the low-grade pile, you don’t even need to cut off the ends, you can just get the whole thing for a buck a pound (depending on your scrapyard) since it adds the weight and is worth more on the wire end

Do you ever find any broken small appliances and try to exchange the warranty for a new one? My mom used to buy anything appliance if she thought it could be sent off. When she died, she had a 10x10 storage filled with fancy coffee makers and toasters and anything name brand that was super nice. She did that for 20 yrs. She would buy it and call the company to get it exchanged. Of course you gotta buy fairly new stuff, but she found it. I bet ppl threw away nice stuff like that thats broken.
