@kendraworth: When my older girls start arguing & getting angry with one another, I know they need CONNECTION & RELEASE, not punishment 🩷 My 3.5 YO is an externalizer by nature, meaning she needs to let OUT her feelings, but that can look like hitting or kicking, which are totally unacceptable behaviors. Instead of teaching her to internalize those feelings, I teach both of my girls (including my 5.5 YO internalizer) to let their feelings OUT physically in positive & appropriate ways. Before I started the video, I identified my 3.5 YO’s emotion of anger, but then I wanted to turn her attitude around. I didn’t tell her she had to be happy or force her to stomp and jump, I just started singing the “I’m so happy” song until she joined me 🩷 My 5.5 YO joined right away, while my 3.5 YO hung back until she was ready. Once we all sang and connected, I knew my girls could be trusted to play nicely together. And even though the singing moved them away from their original argument, I’m not trying to distract them from conflicts & I moved their attention right back to sharing the pillows.
