@celiac_baddie: Sometimes celiac disease just gets to me. I know it's "just pizza," but in that moment I was so frustrated and tired of having to think about every single thing I eat. I tested it because I had a weird feeling, saw "gluten found," and immediately started crying. It wasn't really about the pizza. It was the exhaustion of always having to double check, ask questions, explain myself, and still never fully know if something is actually safe. Most days I can laugh about this stuff, but some days it just really sucks and today it really fucking sucks. #glutenfree #celiac #gf #MentalHealth #sad

All of you commenters, do you really believe that she, being celiac, didn't specifically request a gluten-free pizza? I have celiac disease, and every time I go to a restaurant or pizzeria, I always ask for the gluten-free version of the dishes. Often, due to the carelessness and incompetence of the staff, I risk getting sick because they don't know what's in their dishes. It's exhausting going anywhere and having to ask a thousand questions to get something to eat. And even if they assure you that the food is okay, you still have to check and ask more questions to make sure it really is.

Was it supposed to be gluten free? If you've ordered something and made staff aware of your allergens, and they still sent this out, that's a huge problem. Otherwise why are we expecting a pizza to be gluten free?

The problem is the product may be gluten free but if the whole kitchen isn’t a gluten free environment then really it’s an NGCI product. I’m also guessing it will say on the menu whilst every effort has been made to make sure of allergens unfortunately we cannot guarantee this due to the nature of the environment etc

Restaurants are not designed to be laboratories. Flour gets all over the place. Tiny particles get in the air and settle everywhere. The only way to control that is to dedicate kitchens to gluten-free ingredients. It sucks but there is no other way. It’s not financially feasible for restaurants to build special isolated kitchens to cater to a couple of people, once in a while.
