@hinny_08: I value TRUTH, and love is truth. I love my new teachers dearly, so truth I will always give to them. The truth is…there is value in the experience that veteran teachers have. There’s more wisdom in the comments than most PD’s. #teachersoftiktok #tiktokteacher #teacheradvice
I have a pink classroom and my boys have never batted an eye. I’ve won teacher of the year (voted by the kids) 2 years in a row. They want to see you and my kids know I love pink

I will add: leave a light jacket/hoodie always in your room. You never know when you get cold, chill, drop something on your clothes and you need to cover it…

There is such a thing as having too much. Sometimes, too much clutter/too many decorations can distract and overstimulate... kids and adults!

My controversial opinion is that lamps and mood lighting are great, I have that, but when we’re learning, the big lights are on. Low lights are permission to zone out! This isn’t a spa, get the lights on!

My main priority when setting up my room (new room) this year was that I can’t be seen from the door… cuz being able to hide when I’m trying to be productive is a non-negotiable for me lmao

I like your suggestions. I’m a 46 year old man close to retirement and I can’t do girly. I also refuse to put up LED lights. How can we see to read? I’m just saying

I always go in to my classroom and the first thing I do before decorating anything is figuring out functionality. Where will they line up? How will they go from their desk to the pencil sharpener? Where will I put my desk? Then I go from there. Keep it simple! Don’t over decorate as it can be overstimulating for some of your students. Leave wall space for your anchor charts. ❤️

I asked my mentor this year “how often do you think ‘I told you so’ when I complain?”

First time teacher here! It’s hard to find gender neutral decor. I just want browns and greens

Soooo true. I started teaching in 1997 then “retired” after ten years. Going back this year to 4th! Back then I had no idea of decorating themes or anything. Now I’m doing plants but trying to figure out how to make it a little more boy-ish too

I was testing in a classroom that was so bare the only reason I knew it wasn’t an unoccupied room was the microwave. Come on coach put a little effort into it

Being strict and firm is not mean. I am same and I still love my job after 10 years. And guess what?! My students still come and visit the next year.

I think it’s important to remember that not all advice applies to all situations… take the time to do your own free thinking and decide if this is correct for you or not.

Yep … I’ve heard I’m loud…I’m just firm on boundaries wrapped up in caring compassionate pool noodles… but boundaries just the same … … yes I’ll sing the ditty about all the things to yes do when walking in the hall .. but I’ll also tell them what not to do … no airplane arms no dragging on the wall no touching kids no getting out of line …. And no taking … fair firm boundaries.. wrapped in pool noodles …… as for your hubs decor: try terra cotta theme with brick red, Ivory, and rattan/wheat/burlap

The best thing I’ve done for my classroom not use the over heard lights and instead use many lamps. I also use lights that can change colors and set the light to a warming color like a Library would have. The trick is to still have enough light that you can still read and see everything. Room is not dark but change the light temp to 3600 kelvin

Yes, this is why I changed my theme to construction one year, then continued to use parts of that theme when I went to bees as a theme.
