Don’t worry! The raise will be 3.5%! Which will totally cover inflation!

If the new hire is 18k more than yours, and you are experienced, leave. it means someone else will pay you waaaaay more

18k is quite significant, I would turn in my notice that day if my salary was not increased immediately

18k is ridiculous. if it was like 1.8k I might be able to just be annoyed about it, but 18k?! union up and get a lawyer JFC

Well if the market's moved sounds like it's time to get back on the market. And probably drop that onboarding.

Yep. I was a manager and the INTERN working for me was making $20k more than me. I went straight to the director and got that fixed. Thank goodness he responded the right way and not like in your TT.

Not surprising but Walmart did that to me. I worked there 3 years and carried the department on my back only to find out that someone still in high school (I was college age at the time) got hired making the same wage as me. And the store manager got pissy when I brought it up and told me I wasn’t a team player.

I worked for a managed services provider. they accidentally showed how much they charged the customer for me specifically and it was a super high rate. my actual *salary* was pitiful. I looked for a doesn't job and every position I applied for returned with at least 15k more. I ended up with a new job that paid 25k more.

It would be a “I quit, effective immediately. Now let’s talk about bringing me back on at 20k above my current rate.”

Even just putting "no discussing pay" in the company policies is highly illegal, it's a chilling effect on free discussion. Even if you never tell employees, just having it in there is a big no-no.

Found out the person who covered my mat leave was paid way more than me (10k minimum) because she negotiated. When I was hired I was told no room for negotiation and I needed the job so took it. Glad I left
