Little Italy was shrinking for years, hell decades before Mamdani. I moved away in 2011 and it was barely 2 blocks at that time, couldnt imagine now. not to mention, what old school Italian families even got the money to live there still? but to put that on Mamdani is just beyond idiotic.

I'm tired of the fake outrage as a first gen American of Italian decent. I know the history of my descendants and find the rewriting of their history by idiots on tiktok really annoying. there are no Italian immigrants in Little Italy. they've left years ago

There are Italian restaurants there, but I don’t think most of those people that own this restaurants live in Little Italy anymore. There are Italian neighborhoods in New York. They are plenty of Brooklyn and the Bronx . but it’s not a little Italy.

My complaint is the erasure of the Sephardic and Hasidic enclaves bc those people are still there and it shows, just walking down the street. It makes sense to not include the places where they used to be but include where they currently are and are shaping the culture of the neighborhood.
