Texts all day, “soulmate” by week two. Not because I love you. Because a flood hooks faster than a stream. 2️⃣ I’d study what you never got growing up, and I’d BECOME it. Never felt chosen? I’d choose you loudly. Never felt safe? I’d be your protector. I’m not your dream. I’m your wound, wearing a costume. 3️⃣ I’d give you incredible highs, then rip them away for no reason. Random rewards are the strongest addiction science has ever found. Ask a slot machine 4️⃣ I’d make my mood your full-time job. You’d learn my footsteps, my sighs, the way I shut a door. The more energy you burn managing me, the less you’d have left to question me. 5️⃣ I’d slowly cut you off from anyone who could sober you up. Your mom “disrespects me.” Your best friend is “jealous of us.” Addicts recover in community. I’d make sure you never had one. 6️⃣ I’d punish you with silence until my attention became the drug. Days of cold. Then one crumb of warmth, and you’d feel RESCUED. By your own abuser. 7️⃣ Then I’d position myself as the only one who can make the pain stop. The pain I’M causing.
