@teresondupuy: You will never love an addict into sobriety. You cannot love them enough. Your love is not stronger than their addiction. And that is one of the most painful truths you will ever have to accept. They have to want recovery. They have to surrender. They have to ask for help. They have to become willing to face the battle within themselves. That is their journey. Not yours. I know how heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love struggle with addiction. I know how devastating it is to lose a relationship because addiction became the third person in it. It hurts in ways that are difficult to explain. But if you are trying to rescue them, fix them, monitor them, or carry their recovery for them, you are probably carrying codependency too. And codependency will slowly drain your peace, your identity, your confidence, and your emotional well-being. You can love someone deeply. And still protect yourself. You can pray for them. And still set boundaries. You can hope they recover. And still choose not to sacrifice your own life waiting for them to do it. Loving someone does not mean abandoning yourself. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is step back and allow them to become responsible for their own healing. If you want to stop losing yourself in someone else’s struggle and start reclaiming your own life, get my workbook, Finding Wholeness After Heartbreak, available with the link in my bio. #AddictionRecovery #Codependency #AlAnon #HealingJourney #Boundaries
