I vote that the Eridians gave Dr. Grace have an Eridian lifespan so he could help them with first contact but also so Rocky, there other hero, doesn’t crash out and become a danger to himself and others. The Vulcans also love Grace, he is where they received training for dealing with humans before making first contact in 2063. Grace walked them through how handshakes worked.

I prefer the idea that the Eridians found a way to allow grace to basically be immortal and he eventually gets picked up by the Federation. This is a good head canon

There’s a fic like this called “Dr. Grace in space” by Waffle_bat33 on AO3. It’s not complete yet and this specific scene/scenario isn’t in the fic. However the Vulcans do know about Grace and when Earth tells the Vulcans about Grace they decide not to tell the humans about Grace. The fic is locked so you will need an AO3 account to access it.

Ok but I also want the prequel where Vulcans finally realize their neighbors were making some weird radio noises and they also noticed their sun suddenly stopped dying (idk what the Vulcans were doing; maybe evacuating was deemed more logical) and they get there and there’s the standard diplomatic overtures but the Eridians don’t seem as excited by First Contact as most species usually are. And then like an entire Pre-Warp human walks out and is like hey guys can I borrow some food that isn’t me?

nope, you are stuck now, I need a part two of spock explaining what happened to grace, a part three of the federation pulling up to the space elevator and meeting some eridians, a part 4 where spock explains how the eridians have perfect memory so mind melting with them can be taxings, and a part 5 where kirk gets to meet grace whose arthritis is terrible because of the gravity and kirk offers to fix his joints for him.
