10 years as a prison therapist this was my one fear. Thankfully I was never assaulted and had very supportive correctional officers.

Really shocking to watch actually. Barely, if any warning signs for anything to anticipate a physical violence reaction from him. I replayed the part when she approached him a few times. It happened so quick. And absolutely agreed what shocked me the most was no other inmates coming to her aid.

I currently work as a mental health caseworker. I provide rehabilitation skills post release. see clients at a halfway house and community setting. thank goodness never been attacked. but we are trained to de escalate and protect ourselves from aggressive patients. prior to that worked at state hospital. was attacked many times.

So shock is like a boot camp. It is tough bec the incarcerated people will be disrespected daily. Also, at lake view you cannot be on MH meds if I remember correctly. Shock is a brief program about 6 months or so but they will have drug treatment and anger management. But there is certainly a culture AND many COs quit or was laid off and we have the national guard….. it’s very stressful for everyone. Lastly we have had several inmate deaths by COs……. So there’s that
