Because understanding was never the currency of change. It just feels like one. Watch how the trick works. You read the book, you name the pattern: "that's my anxious attachment," "that's my scarcity mindset", and your brain releases a small reward. The same reward it would give you for actually solving the problem. Naming FEELS like progress. So people collect names the way others collect stamps: attachment styles, trauma responses, boundary language. Beautiful vocabulary. Same Monday. I call it the insight trap, and modern therapy-speak made it comfortable to live in. "I'm processing" can be honest work — or it can be a five-year residence permit for doing nothing. "I'm setting boundaries" sometimes means one hard conversation is being avoided with excellent terminology. The uncomfortable mechanics: insight lives in the head, but habits live lower; in the body, in reflexes trained by thousands of repetitions. Your head learned the new theory in an afternoon. Your reflexes never attended the lecture. That's why you can explain your people-pleasing brilliantly at dinner and still say yes to everything by dessert. The only bridge between knowing and living is a rep. One small action your body performs differently. Said the uncomfortable thing once. Left at six once. Let the phone ring once. Ugly, clumsy, unphotogenic reps. So here's my test, and I apply it to myself first: for every insight I claim, I must show one behavior that changed because of it. No behavior; it's not an insight yet. It's a quote I liked. Understanding is the map. It has never once been the walking.
