I love this review. You’re so right: it’s an album caught in the in-between. It definitely feels suspended and stormy. Her voice both pierces and tethers the walls of reverb whether it’s coming from the guitars or dancier synths. I was surprised by ‘goin down’ & ‘outta time’ because they sound like they couldve came off of TLC’s CrazySexyCool. They also refashioned Prince’s blend of rock&B to signal desire & frustration

She ends the album by saying “I give you”. There is power in walking away even though it may feel like defeat and I’m glad she took us on her journey of figuring that out for herself! She went from wanting to be stuck in a particular time or moment (crystalized) to fully packing up and moving on!!!
