“England isn’t built for the heat”. You’ve been a country thousands of years longer than us…and a/c has been around for 124 years…how have you not adapted?

Having things built for the heat doesn’t mean it’s not hotter. And it’s clear a lot of folks don’t understand the scope of how different the US temperatures hit. You can have anything from 110 with no humidity here to 110 with 90%+ and I swear to you there is no comparing the two. I’d kill for a summer that topped out in the 80s with humidity.

People is the UK need to realize their heatwave is NOTHING compared to having that heat PLUS humidity. You breathe and your nostrils, lungs and body feels like it’s burning. You’re literally suffering! UK just has to deal with an average spring day. Yes we have ACs but half of them don’t get turned on until at least middle of June because that’s when the heat actually starts up.

I’m over this debate. American houses are built to ventilate the heat. European houses are most often built to keep the heat in since it’s colder during all the other seasons. American air isn’t as humid as european air. Americans are also used to the heat, while most of us in europe are NOT.

it's not about air conditioning - there is no action outside! its about the humidity which makes it feel so much hotter and unbearable!

people saying it’s not hot or why don’t we use air con english houses werent made for the heat. they were made to keep heat IN and plus england is mostly a rainy and cold country so people are not used to the heat. humidity is also playing a part in this, frim what i remember the humidity is around 80% so it’s heavy and uncomfortable

It’s because the UK is such a tiny island, the humidity traps the heat and makes the air so much harder to breathe, thereby reducing our ability to cool down. It makes it so sticky and boiling. This is coming from an Egyptian living in the UK. I go to Egypt most years in August, the hottest month of the year, when it’s 50° but I love that because Egypt has dry heat. However 25° in the UK is an absolute nightmare.

you can't forget about humidity which makes the heat worse in America so your temp will end up being 2 times hotter
