@horses.rescue.she: When we first met Mr. Bear, we truly believed we were looking at a very old horse whose best days were already behind him. His coat was unbelievably long. Underneath it, he was painfully thin. We expected age, hormones, maybe even illness. We honestly had no idea what was hiding beneath all that hair. So we gave him time. For the last four months, he’s been doing exactly what every horse deserves the chance to do… eat, rest, feel safe, and simply be a horse. Then something incredible happened. His entire winter coat began falling away in sheets. Little by little, the horse we couldn’t see underneath finally started to appear. When he arrived in California, I wanted it to be a surprise for Leanne. She had only ever known the shaggy, exhausted horse from the auction. Watching her walk up to him and realize it was actually Mr. Bear was one of those rescue moments that never gets old. This is why we do what we do. Not because every story is easy. Not because every story has a perfect ending. But because every once in a while, you get to witness a transformation that reminds you what a little time, good care, and a second chance can accomplish. Mr. Bear still has weight to gain, but today he’s comfortable, loved, and finally becoming the horse he was always meant to be. ❤️
