@graciegetsitdone: since mid may i’ve come out of many conversations with many different people about cambridge, always super upset. but that’s because i knew in my gut what the answer was! it’s always been my dream and the last few weeks have been difficult to accept that my dream is changing. but that’s what i have to remind myself - my dream is CHANGING, i’m not giving up on it. and like i said i can’t see myself happy there so it’s not worth it! i feel kind of weird about this especially as a “studytokker” but there you go - here’s my thoughts 🩵 #cambridge #cambridgeuniversity #oxbridge #cambridgeuni #uni
I studied classics at Edinburgh and I am still here! (Graduated 2013!) my teachers were shocked I didn’t apply to oxbridge but I just def wouldn’t have enjoyed the workload and (this might be judgemental of me) I didn’t feel like I’d love the people… plus such short semesters I feel like you’re hardly getting your money’s worth! Good luck with finding the perfect place ☺️

Honestly sounds like the right decision! Having just finished second year at Cambridge I often feel regretful with my choice- like you say, the workload is just too intense if you don’t fully enjoy your subject

as a current cambridge student i really wish i'd done more research into my course and college before applying as i definitely got caught up in the prestige of it all but in hindsight think i would've been much happier elsewhere - so good on you for realising that sooner rather than later!!

You're doing the right thing by listening to your instincts. There is power in choosing what is right for YOU and not obeying external expectations.

This just came up on my FYP slightly at random but I just wanted to note that over the years I know and have known a number of people who made the same choice as you and have NEVER regretted their decision to withdraw their application process to Oxbridge. I also know a number of people who deeply regret their decision to go to Oxbridge. Your gut is a powerful tool so listen to it. You do not need to justify why your gut is like mmm not for me. Best of luck with your next chapter ❤️

it’s honestly so so impressive to be able to make this decision, i feel as though many people apply purely for the prestige rather than the course and be able to say they don’t want to go is admirable. i know you’ll be amazing regardless of where you’ll go!!

im starting y12 later this year and honestly have also had second thoughts about cambridge - i just really dont think id enjoy the culture of the uni.. like i cant think of much on the top of my head but how you arent allowed to have a job, you arent allowed external accomodation, weekly formal dinners, any judgy rich kids 😭, i think i would just get so overwhelmed with it all even outside of the academics which would already be crazy

Tbf the work load for humanities (key word: humanities haha can’t speak for stem) is really not terrible and i would say the uni is actually very accommodating for external circumstances regarding work during the term from what people i know have said, also the environment is really not stressful like my friends are so locked out is brilliant 😭 i think the open day stuff is more intimidating cause ppl want to come across in a certain way- i will say there is lots of fun to be had and definitely loads of bar crawls and societies!!

i graduated from oxford last year - and as a fellow chronic ill girly, YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION!!! i’ll never fully regret going there, but would i have had a better experience elsewhere? 100%! i luckily found a good group of friends but the people, workload and even how the courses are taught are very… interesting🫣 you will find where you are meant to go, doing what you love✨

i feel the exact same way, i think people glamorise it like they glamorise harvard. i also feel the university tries too hard to come across as more open to students, like lets be honest oxbridge is extremely rigid and they promote themselves in such a different way compared to practice. i am glad you are finding your choices, i have physical and mental difficulties right now and i felt cambridge would have not have been the university to accommodate for me. the decision for me to avoid cambridge feels like such a weight off my shoulders. girly i am sure you would be very proud in the future of this decision. ❤️

I think you’re right. The people who go there are less bothered about having fun and truly just want to study. My daughter is one of them. I was much more of a partier when I went to uni. Ultimately it won’t matter where you go

this sounds like such a sensible and intelligent decision! i’ve just finished my first year at ox, and can honestly say it’s not the be all and end all. i love it here, but as someone who also has a chronic illness it’s defo been difficult at times, and id be lying if i said there weren’t times that i wanted to be somewhere else 😭 am sure you’ll flourish wherever you end up xx

Omg you summarized your reasoning so perfectly and I relate sooooo heavy. Since forever I feel like I’ve been in awe of the school but honestly now that’s I actually look at the courses look at the application process my rose tinted glasses have been shattered. It’s unbelievably long a lot of people think that oh your smart so Oxbridge and iwl I thought the same but the workload makes you feel almost robotic and yes I enjoy study but I also enjoy variety. And with such limited courses I feel a lot of us are settling for the next best thing, having to choose between what they have rather than what you want which makes it even harder to just “thug” out the course simply because it’s at Cambridge. All the extra steps like early deadline entrance exams interviews is just not worth it to settle for second best course. 😔 I love the caption btw it really is sad to see your dreams change but ig there is some peace knowing you’re doing what’s right for you and not opting out because you can’t do it.

i was going to apply for physics at oxford because i love the uni, city and the way they teach but its so much added stress with entry exams and interviews plus the cost of living there is unbelieablr

For bath your offer goes from AAA/A*AB to AAB if you do EPQ. Honestly I feel the same way about you with Oxbridge, it feels like it’s what I’m supposed to do but honestly I don’t think I would enjoy it.

as someone who has an offer and is waiting on results day, honestly this is the right decision!! it makes a levels even more stressful its actually sickening and everyone and their mum knows about it, even though its statistically likely that you miss your offer its awful. also the admissions process is so random that people who deserve an offer often dont get one

From someone who has just graduated (did HSPS) really proud of you for making such a decision, especially given a lot of people sacrifice their mental health for oxbridge. You will thrive wherever you gooo! I had a great experience, I don’t regret it one bitttt, I ended up finding my people and enjoyed parts of the course I didn’t think I woulddd but it’s so clear you know what you want so trust yourselfffff! Whatever you decide, as amazing as the Cambridge name is, it doesn’t guarantee you that career success as it may have in the path. So you’re not losing anything major, especially if you’re still gunning for other top unis!!!!

You can still do the oxbridge pathway there are other very good universities that you can apply to don’t limit your options because your views of where your going has changed
