@uncle_djpj: The United States made New Mexico wait 62 years to become a state, killing roughly 50 statehood bills, because Congress thought it was too Catholic, too Mexican, too Indian, and too Spanish speaking. By then, Santa Fe had been a functioning capital for 300 years. And when New Mexico finally got to write its constitution in 1910, it refused to erase itself. It wrote protections for Spanish speakers directly into the founding document, in the exact era the South was building Jim Crow. The oldest capital in America, 19 Pueblos, and the atomic bomb, all in one state. ——- #newmexico #History #santafe #elnorte #americannations

As a New Mexican who often feels very frustrated with a lot of things about living here this was a really beautiful, historical love letter to my state.

Spent a week in New Mexico in early June and I cannot get it out of my mind or my heart. Never have I ever felt so…human. I must go back.

Born and raised New Mexican here! My family heritage in NM is traved back to the 1500s. I've had people try to insult me thinking my family came to America from Mexico when in fact my family was here centuries before theirs and even played a role in accomplishing statehood for NM. New Mexico is an extremely special place. Thank you for sharing.

This is soooo fascinating. I’m from Texas and I thought about moving to New Mexico cuz I want to know what it’s like to live in a blue state. It’s so cool that NM has been able to hold onto its culture so well.

Born and raised here. New Mexico is stunningly beautiful. It has the best food in the world. And the kindest, most down to earth, people. I’m getting older and people keep saying, “move to Florida”. And I laugh and laugh and laugh.

I teach NM history and you did a good job with this video 👏 You should do more about NM and focus on specific topics like when we caught the interest of the French as well 😉

As someone who was born and raised here, I had no idea about this. Thank you for sharing this knowledge—not just for me, but for everyone else who didn't know either. I've walked through Santa Fe Plaza so many times, and now I have a whole new appreciation for the history beneath my feet.
