Don’t people realize that you’re not just buying the food. All of the weight staff has to be paid. The chefs have to be paid the rent the lights the taxes yeah that’s why it’s more expensive to go eat at somebody else’s.

You went a different way than my mind did explaining the price difference! I was thinking rent/mortgage on the building, utilities, insurance, maybe security system, POS system and credit card processing fees, bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, marketing, website maintenance and SEO, commercial kitchen equipment, printing/binding menus, furniture and decor, linens, serving dishes and utensils, cleaning products... Just off the top of my head!

Restaurants also have a lot of overhead. Wages, property payments, property taxes, electricity, water, food waste to account for. supplies plus they want some profit for all their trouble

in the vein of "make it your own" my family has been making this dish with broccoli forever. you can cook the broccoli until it's soft (separately or in the garlic oil over medium-low heat) and add it in before the pasta to add some pretty cheap vitamins and extra volume. any veggie works!
