Critics of that narrative choice argue that keeping Xavier alive purely to suffer or watch the fallout robs Apocalypse of his ruthlessness. After all, Apocalypse operates strictly by a "survival of the fittest" creed; leaving a premier threat like Xavier alive when he’s completely at his mercy feels counterintuitive to a villain who shouldn't leave loose ends. At the same time, storytellers often use that exact mercy as a psychological torture device—forcing Xavier to live with the heavy grief and guilt of failing his oldest friend, which drives his darker, more hardened arc in the aftermath (like founding X-Corp and pushing the Danger Room to its absolute limits). Even so, it's easy to see why some fans view it as plot armor for Professor X or a missed opportunity for Apocalypse to cement his terrifying dominance right out of the gate

yes but the whole point is that everything needs to change for them to do so. Nathan summers will need to lose the techno virus entirely for him to become xman and defeat apocalypse meaning that almost to none of what we've seen so far will be the same due to this. As arishem explained, the harbinger of death will bring about new creation, being xman.

Last I remember Charles went to use his power on apocalypse and he responded with actual conquerors haki… he doesn’t see him as a threat at all so this makes perfect sense why he spared him

Why is there such a large gap between him disappearing of the rest of the crew and then him coming back because he's a time traveler there's no reason why he couldn't just come back a millisecond after he left 💀

I see where you’re coming from man, in some stories these moments just feel like “for the plot” moments. In this scene I think it’s done pretty well given the setup we got. But at the end of the day I guess it’s just a personal preference. 🙏🏾
