![Zohran Mamdani, a 33‑year‑old Democratic Socialist and New York State Assembly member, has accused a Super PAC backing Andrew Cuomo of “blatant Islamophobia” after distributing a campaign mailer that darkened his beard and adjusted contrast—perceptions linked to anti‑Muslim bias. The altered image, widely shared online, was allegedly aimed at Jewish voters, highlighting Mamdani’s sharp criticism of Israel’s Gaza actions and support for the BDS movement. Mamdani, who—if elected—would make history as the city’s first Muslim mayor, called the mailer “evidence of the kind of racism that explains why MAGA billionaires support [Cuomo’s] campaign,” underscoring the high stakes of this tight race . This controversy unfolds as the Democratic primary on June 24 narrows into a head‑to‑head between Cuomo and Mamdani, with polls indicating a tightening contest. Cuomo, the former governor with a substantial machine and Bloomberg endorsement, faces backlash over his record and past allegations. Mamdani, backed by progressive leaders like Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez, is campaigning on bold policies—rent freezes, free childcare, expanded transit—capitalizing on his grassroots momentum. The Super PAC incident has injected fresh controversy into their showdown, emphasizing broader themes of race, religious discrimination, and the Democratic Party’s ideological direction . Do you think Cuomo’s campaign went to far? . . #n#newyorkn#newyorkcityn#nycz#zohranmamdania#andrewcuomop#protestp#protestst#trendingf#fypシf#fypj#jeawokj#jeawokmedia](/video/cover/7515525531094306079.webp)
