@shaylynnstudios: Replying to @TrendyChic by Lee Etsy fees explained. Etsy fees aren’t the real cost of business… Customer acquisition is. One way or another you’re going to pay for traffic. The question is for new Etsy sellers, Etsy small business owners, Shopify owners, or people in ecommerce: how do you want to pay for it? #etsy #etsyseller #etsysellertips #etsysmallbusiness #EtsyTips
The real cost of Etsy isn't the fees, it's the time lost when you're not tracking which products are worth reordering vs which ones are just sitting there. Sellers who track that data are the ones who eventually build something beyond Etsy."

$2,500 is a lot for someone who's just getting started. I'm really curious what your startup costs were in the beginning. Overall, I completely agree with what you're saying. 😊

Thank you I get fatigued, listening to people complain about the fees myself. They are a business. They also have to make money. The fact that I don’t have to pay for my own website or maintain. It means a lot to me.

Exactly. Etsy is a service provider for businesses. That comes with a fee! I hate when a business tries to charge 3% for using a credit card… most people won’t/can’t buy without a card. You need the credit card companies. They deserve to be paid for their service. Business expense that needs to be factored into everyone’s cost of doing business.

Oof. To an extent, yes, however their off-site marketing fee is BRUTAL. On sales where they force me to be advertised off site (when I cannot opt out) they’re taking 26% of that sale. That’s insane!

I agree with you, but Shopify is no where near $400 a month. In 10 years on Shopify my bills tend to be around $200 a month. And that’s mostly apps I added. I think base is around $40 a month. But yes you need to drive traffic to the site which can be very costly and time consuming

Love your content. You’ve probably answered this question a million times, but I’m curious if you think it’s worth opening a new POD shop these days? After market and keyword research, it seems next to impossible to find a good niche that’s in demand, not too saturated and/or come up with something that stands out in the crowd.
