Most people grew up on the story and fell in love with it. When the dialogue is so awful, shots and costumes so terrible and horrible casting it’s obvious gonna get hated on it’s a slap in the face to anyone that loves the story

It is unfortunate what the discussion has turned into because I have (and many others) have some genuine criticism, mainly regarding the costuming of this movie, which ranges from neat to truly terrible, but a lot of that gets grouped with other forms of criticism that you are taking about

The Odyssey is about a guy who gets lost for 7 years at sea, arrives on an island, is the only survivor of 600 men, needs a boat so he tells this fantastical story of gods and monsters, he’s a KNOWN LIAR so much so it’s told to us almost every time his name is mentioned… and you want “historical accuracy?” BFFR YALL wouldn’t like that movie

As an African myself, I feel it's incredibly racist that they keep retelling the same white stories but with diverse actors as if we don't have our own history and mythology that's worth adapting. Feels like 'Hollywood racial charity'. We have stories worth telling you know. Historical dramas are the worst, by portraying the past as color blind and inclusive it erases the past injustices we faced.

We as black people know this. But Hollywood is only feeding the hate by doing stuff like this. We know these people aren’t on our side. But we also know that. By Hollywood feeding them and their arguments of replacement. It’s harder to argue against actual African stories and legends. Then it is to black wash white cultural stories. Actual African history and legends, and mythology is cool too. We don’t need fake diversity through taking other stories and just injecting black people

Honestly I hate how everyone is handling this movie. I'm greek and watching Americans fight over this is simply infuriating. On one hand you have brain dead maga who just hate on the movie because black and trans people exist. And on the other hand you have hypocrite leftists who keep talking about representation being important but not greek representation i guess. Also, yes I don't like the fact that Hellen will be played by a black woman and it's not because I'm racist , I don't like the rest of the cast either. For the same reason I don't like the cast of Troy or the 300. Because there are no greek people in them. All I see is a story from my culture turn into American slop.
