Thank you! Hearing this is validating. I was my moms therapist and when I needed consoling I was either blown off, treated like I was crazy, laughed at or told I did it to myself and get over it. There was no its all right, your going to be ok. she always made me feel worse. I wasn't my dads therapist, but he often would pretend to be consoling in order to start lecturing on what a great leader his.🤣🤣🤣🤣 I recently noticed that its been a few years since I have gone to them with problems and it felt great recognizing I stopped or at least slowed that pattern of self sabbatoge.

This was my parents. They’d even talk about their intimacy or lack there of. They expected us to be their therapists. I have zero idea how people like this were able to be “adult enough” to get married and have kids. I cut this off by the time I was 30. Now at 48, I’m NC with my mom and VLC w my dad.

I unfortunately did this with my children. They are adults now. And I'm trying to change my behaviors. By healing and recognition of patterns. While accepting accountability for the damage I did.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I had to tell my mom I was not going to be able to help her through her feelings about my cancer.

I work in inpatient mental healthcare, sometimes with children and teens. I tell the children all the time your parents should not tell you about personal problems. You’re a child you should be able to live your life as a child and not worry about a thing.

I felt entirely responsible for my mother’s emotional state my whole life. I’m now pregnant and will do everything in my power to not replicate that for my daughter. Gratefully a decade of good therapy and sobriety will help ensure that the cycle ends with us.

Everytime I see your videos it feels like you’re narrating my life. 😹 I always thought it was my job to manage my mother’s emotions. She called me her little therapist to other adults when I was a kid. I haaaated it.

I stopped being that dumping ground, but it has resulted in withdrawal. It's difficult facing the isolation once you step outside of your role in the system.

Every conversation for the last year and absolutely no awareness of what I’m going through… I understand it’s a lack of capacity but it still hurts

I get emotionally reactive under stress and we had a lot last week. I have the friends but since my mom passed it’s been much harder for me to vent. 💗💗💗Hugs 🫂 thanks for keeping me aware cuz living in a guilt spiral sucks too 🫶🌻 I am working on this. Trying to achieve some balance and growth.

For many years, the only time my stepfather, who raised me, was nice to me was when he was mad at my mother and needed me to listen to him complain about her. Otherwise, he treated me like s*** on his shoes and I'm not entirely sure he didn't try to kill me twice. My mother, on the other hand, started telling me the details of her sex life when I was very young... think younger than middle school. She called me a prude when I didn't want to hear it.

my mom pats herself on the back for waiting to dump her workplace harassment on me until I was 13 or 14. um, hi, I was still a kid and that fully shaped the guilt i carry for her suffering - if she didnt have kids, if she wasn't a single mother, if she didnt have to take care of me, then she could have left that abuse and wouldn't be as screwed up as she is now. and everything does revolve around that experience, everything i do is compared to hers, etc. its exhausting. I feel like I cant ever ask for basic stuff, even as the breadwinner

I call this emotional vomit. The upchuck, acting out, crying, tantrums, and then I have to mop up the mess.
