Fun-time🫶🏻 :
Months before this happened, the house next door went up for rent after our neighbours moved. It was cheap, so my older brother took it. The place was old but fine, though he refused to sleep there alone until he got a roommate. We all thought he was just being scared.
One day I invited my best friend over. We were 11, and my dad and brother had gone out. My mum was sick and asleep, so we asked if we could go play in my brother's house. She said yes. It felt spooky, but we didn't think much of it. We were sitting and talking when a huge bang hit - like a brick dropping right in front of us. We jumped up and saw the bathroom tap running. I turned it off, assuming it was just old pipes.
As we were about to leave, another bang hit - this one felt like it went through our bodies. Then my friend asked, "Can you hear whistling?" At first I couldn't, then I did - faint, like an older man. We stood at the bathroom doorway when the tap turned on again. In the kitchen, my brother's old radio was playing his Christmas CD. For what felt like two minutes, it kept looping the same line from "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town": "He sees you when you're sleeping." Over and over. The whistling got louder, like it was getting closer.
One final bang sent us running out of the house. We sprinted to my mum's room - she was still asleep, and we were alone. Weeks later, our neighbour told us an old man had died of a heart attack in the back of that house. The tap never acted up again. I didn't go back there for months.
