@davidgallachermd: 🎓 In the midst of a busy spring, I graduated from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School MBA program. 📚 I decided to pursue an MBA during residency because I saw the importance of learning this perspective early. It meant committing many nights and weekends over the span of two and a half years to group projects, studying, and sitting with a way of thinking different from the one we are classically taught in medicine. Balancing it against clinical work was not always easy. I wanted to understand the parts of healthcare that shape patient care long before and long after the moment I see someone in clinic. 💡 In medical school I realized the practice of medicine is not an independent function. It requires a relationship between multiple industries coming together as one. We are trained to focus on the clinical piece, and that piece matters, but it is only one part of a much larger system. Learning how the other parts think and operate mattered to me, because that understanding is exactly what gets lost when these worlds stay separate.
