🇮🇳 5000 Years of Bharat’s Fashion! which era did you like the best? A Journey of Identity & Freedom ✨❤️ 🕰 Around 2500 BCE – The Indus Valley Era • Men: Wore a dhoti-like lower garment called Antariya, often pleated and tucked at the waist, secured with a Kayabandh (waistband). Many adorned an Ushnisha (turban) and draped an Uttariya (shoulder cloth). • Women: Draped the Antariya as well, paired with an Uttariya over the shoulders. The chest was often covered with a Stanpatta (breast band). Jewellery of gold, beads, and shells added beauty. 🕰 Around 1000 CE till the 19th century – Medieval Bharat & Central Asian Influence • Men: In Northern India, the Jama became popular—an upper garment with side-tied flaps and a frock-like lower part. This later evolved into the Angrakha and, eventually, the modern kurta. • Women: In many regions, the Ghagra-Choli-Ordhni became common. In others, draped styles closer to the sari prevailed. Regional variations were immense—coastal, desert, and hill regions each had their unique attire. 🕰 1800s – The British Raj • Men: Began pairing coats and jackets with dhotis—jackets for a “modern” look, dhotis for comfort while sitting cross-legged. Tailored shirts also became more common. • Women: Introduced to Victorian-inspired blouses, often worn with saris. Petticoats were adopted, changing the drape and silhouette of traditional wraps. 💬 Through invasions, trade, and colonisation, Bharat’s clothing evolved—but never lost its soul. Each era blended outside influences with our own traditions, making fashion a form of quiet resistance and identity. This Independence Day, as we celebrate the freedom of our land, let’s also celebrate the freedom to wear our heritage proudly—a freedom we’ve guarded for over 5000 years. 🇮🇳💫 . . #FreedomInFashion #sareechallenge #sareedraping #Bharat #trendingreels
