@berenice_dolls: Did you miss this episode in history? Before the war, before the treaty, before the massacres, there was a lie that stole everything. Mexico banned slavery decades before the U.S. did, and still let American settlers in, under one simple condition, respect Mexican law. But, men like Stephen F. Austin broke that promise and lobbied for a war so he can his friends could bring enslaved Africans to Texas land. Then came 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and another broken promise. (Tejaos) Mexicans who stayed were told they’d be full citizens, that they would have their land protected. Instead they experienced what’s “Juan crowl where their courts were rigged, their citizenship ignored, their dignity gone. They became “foreigners” in their own homeland overnight. That betrayal was the seed. Between 1910 and 1920, Mexicans and Mexican Americans in Texas lived under siege. Rangers, vigilantes and law enforcement raided and wiped out entire communities to steal whatever they owened. State ethnic cleansing. History calls this decade La Matanza, its well known in a Texas but is it in the U.S. curriculum? I think not. This is Part One of a series. A really good book to read is “The Injustice Never Leaves You” talks about what our grandparents went thru up until 1930… these types of trauma stay in our families TODAY!!!!

Right in south Texas my grandma told me the white kids were required to report the kids who were heard speaking Spanish amongst each other. And some would get paddled for doing such. :(

My grandpa was one of the men that Roosevelt “let in” in California to go through Boot Camp but just went through marine Boot Camp just to get trapped in slave camp for two years until he escaped= bracero program

My grandpa grew up in a small town here in Texas, they only really loved him when he was in high school, he won back-to-back state Championships. When he played basketball and our family couldn't even go celebrate with them.They had to celebrate from home, he couldn't even accept the scholarships he was offered cause he had to work the cotton fields to help his family when he passed a couple years ago, we went back to his hometown. We got to see all this trophies. His coach let em have the winning one basketball in the championship, but he had to hold on to it gave it to him later sad my Grandpa couldn't live out his dreams of playing basketball.
