As a DJ myself, this is something that happens all the time, and although they did book you for an EDM gig, it’s also important to have backups just in case the vibe isn’t matching the crowd. I understand the promoter should have done a WAY better job of aligning the DJ with the vibe of the crowd, but as a professional DJ, you have to be prepared for whatever!!

Even if you specialize in a specific genre, you need to also have a repertoire of music in other genres because you never know. Even the biggest edm acts do that.

if you want someone that can play pop/hip hop really well, I have buddies I can recommend but don't hire someone who won't be able to play what they play best. that's why I don't take random parties anymore. I have like 1 bad bunny remix so 🤷🏽♂️
