Becoming a mother and tapping into the natural skill set I never knew existed in me was the most empowering experience in my life. I’ve never felt such a natural primal instinct and sense of purpose. With my first born I was in love with this feeling and let it lead me completely, trusting in it entirely. These instincts have helped me and saved my children’s lives throughout my motherhood journey. Trusting my body to make the right amount of milk that my baby needs at the right time. When to seek medical help. When to exit a place or situation. When my babies need skin to skin. What to do in fight or flight situations. I’ve done things a head of time with no idea why only later to realise it was a critical movement. I was told with my first baby not to let the baby fall asleep breastfeeding or for the baby to sleep on me as it was a bad habit to get into. I unregistered with them right after and never used their services again. I think my biggest and first instinct was to comfort, soothe and breastfeed my baby to sleep. And if I hadn’t trusted those first instincts perhaps I wouldn’t have fully leaned into it and begun this beautiful relationship with the mother I transitioned into and I wouldn’t have made some of the critical decisions I have over the years. I feel like we need a more open minded, non judgmental, friendly service with nothing pushed on us. It’s time for a rebrand 😂 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 #fyp #plunket #nz #postpartum #family
