Nothing can prepare you for this. We were as prepared as we possibly could have been. This situation was totally out of my family’s control. 5 minutes before we arrived at the gate, my daughters father got up and informed the flight attendant that we were having a medical emergency and my daughters blood sugar was low and we needed to be accommodated off the plane ASAP first before everyone else stood up and would block our exit. She rudely said “okay, go sit back down” and put the phone to her ear acting like she was calling someone, but then she got on the intercom and stated “Everyone needs to remain seated until we reach the boarding gate, if anyone gets up again we will stop this plane immediately and will not be going anywhere, if there is a medical emergency we will deal with it at the gate” But they in fact did NOT deal with it at the gate, after everyone stood up crouding around us, she literally stood behind us watching us struggle to make my daughter comfortable in such an uncomfortable situation, listening to the loud dexcom alarm go off repeatedly. My dad looked back at her, made eye contact, and said to her “We’re having a medical emergency here, why are you just standing there?” She continued to look at my dad, scoffed, and slowly looked away…. 10 seconds later, my daughter was throwing up. She vomited so much that she started choking and struggling to get it all out because we were in such a cramped space. It was extremely scary. She’s never thrown up during a low blood sugar before, ever. The main point is, we needed to be the first ones off that aircraft so she could have recovered from her low, safely and comfortably. She had all the carbs on board and her body was trying to be in the process of recovery but the conditions of the plane wouldn’t allow her body to do that. The flight attendant stood in the back during the disembarking process and watched us stuck in line, hearing my daughters dexcom alarm going off and my daughter complaining of heat and nausea.. and she didn’t clear a path for us. These flight attendants have a lot of power and control, they have the ability to do whatever they want if they wanted to. She LOVED to use that intercom to scold people to sit down the whole flight, so why was it different now when a family in need needed people to be announced to sit down so they could pass to safty? Why? The plane was extremely hot and stuffy, my daughter could not recover in these conditions having to stand in a line on a hot plane waiting to disembark. That’s not my fault we got stuck due to lack of accommodations for her disability, nothing can prepare you for that when you’re trapped in the back of a hot plane and your daughter is having hot flashes and nausea. I literally could not fix her nausea whilst being stuck in that line shoulder to shoulder with strangers.. it’s extremely hard to render aid to a child whist in a shoulder to shoulder line restricting your every movement. WE GAVE HER plenty of CARBS TO TREAT HER LOW, but we had to WAIT FOR HER NUMBER TO GO BACK UP, in that time frame of waiting SHES STILL EXPERIENCING BAD SYMPTOMS THAT WE CANNOT FIX IN A HOT AND CROUDED ENVIRONMENT WITHOUT STAFF ACCOMMODATIONS, THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT LEFT US TO WAIT IN THAT LONG LINE AND DID NOT GET US TO SAFTY SO SHE COULD COMFORTABLY RECOVER FROM HER LOW. It wasn’t until my daughter started vomiting that everyone standing up in our way started sitting back down, even though her Dexcom alarm was going off the whole time and everyone who was still sitting down was watching us like a hawk looking concerned for us. #southwestairlines #storytime #fyp #foryou #flightattendant
