For those who are confused, both reps and resistance is important. If you cannot do a pushup at all, doing one with less resistance is better than not doing it. If he can only do 2 or 3 pushups before his arms give out, his muscles are not getting worked out AT ALL. Using this with more reps, maybe ~20 across multiple sets is much better than doing 3 "normal" pushups. It engages the muscle which tells your body it's important to grow.
