Happy Birthday in Heaven Selena Selena Quintanilla, widely known as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” was an American singer, songwriter, and fashion icon whose influence continues decades after her passing. Born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas, she rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with her unique blend of Tejano, pop, and Latin sounds. Her albums, including Amor Prohibido, brought her mainstream success, and she became one of the most celebrated Latin artists of her time. Selena was also known for her vibrant stage presence, signature style, and close connection with her fans. Tragically, Selena’s life was cut short on March 31, 1995, at the age of 23. She was shot by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques, during a confrontation at a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. The meeting was meant to address financial discrepancies involving missing funds. During the argument, Saldívar pulled out a gun and shot Selena in the back as she tried to flee. Selena managed to run to the motel lobby for help but collapsed shortly after.
