I’ve been wearing contacts since I was 18 and I’m now 40, I’ve only recently found out about this. Why do the opticians not warn ppl about this. I also wear monthly’s so wash/ shower/ swim with them in 😭

So grateful for this side of TikTok! Educating people as the opticians do not, wore contacts for years and I’ve always wore them swimming and in the shower until I saw this post. So sorry you had to go through this but thank you for being brave and sharing your story ❤️

So any type of water that cud be contaminated by bugs is a massive risk no matter what contacts you are wearing? Thank y Emma I’m glad I found you on my fyp as I’m about to try contacts ….. Can they operate on your eye or is the damage already done by the infection 💖👑💖

I occasionally wear daily contacts (did) im terrified of wearing them now i came across your video, honestly, my opticians should have went into more detail about this when i started them. My stepson would wear his for months on end without taking them out. You can buy them so easily on the internet without knowing this, there definitely should be more information out there when purchasing. I appreciate your videos, thank you for sharing, and im sorry this happened to you xx

I can’t wear dailes due to my high astigmatism it’s just all about taking care of them but in this case it wasn’t your fault you fell into mud I hate people being cheeky in these comments

I am so sorry to hear about your situation and thanks for spreading awareness. As someone who is shortsighted and have worn medicated glasses for over 20years, please can I ask what the advantages of wearing contact lenses over medicated glasses is? I seem to see a lot of warnings about the risk of contact lenses and delicate care for them which has put me off wearing contact lenses (I haven't worn then before).

A year ago I had no idea about this and I’ve been an eye contact wearer for years. I was swimming and showering with my contact lenses without even thinking this was a possibility. Then another person here on tik tok talked about this parasite and I stopped immediately. I don’t know how I was this lucky all these years. Thank you for the raising awareness and I’m sorry that you had to be the one to raise awareness. I pray for you and your complete recovery 🙏🏻

Yeah, you’re not wrong though the risk associated with monthly or weekly lenses is significantly higher than with dailies. But thinking you’re at zero risk because you’re wearing dailies is just wrong.

What I find absolutely mental.. yesterday was the first time ever iv showered with my contacts in. I've never searched content relating to this, nor has it been on my FYP but yet here it is!!!! wtf. How long was it before your symptoms began, i'm panicking so bad about this now, like my eye feels sensitive 😭😭😭
