My parents had been divorced 20 years when my Dad died. He was in the process of passing and was so restless all night. It was like he was holding off, waiting for something. My mom stopped by the next morning on her way to work. She walked in and said, "Mike, it's your pain in the ass ex-wife!" He raised his head up and waved at her with the biggest smile. She sat next to him and held his hand, and he was instantly calm. She told him she wanted to play a song for him & played Ricky Van Shelton's "I'll leave this world loving you." It was me, my brother, my Mom, and my Dad. We listened to the entire song in silence, and as SOON as it ended, he took his last breath. It was the most surreal experience of my life.

My parents were divorced my entire life but when we lost my mom - my dad came - devastated- crying he said “there was a time it was just her and I” love changes but it never truly dies. Having emotionally mature parents is a gift beyond gifts. 🥹

my mom and her ex husband (my older siblings dad) were the same way, together 17 years broke up in the 90s when he was dying in 2011 she stayed at the hospital every hour she could they were soulmates maybe not romantically but they are every reason ik what soulmates look like

My great grand parents were divorced my whole life. Nanna got sick and grandad did EVERYTHING for her, moved her in, renovated the bathroom for her to have autonomy when he was 92 yo, he even tried to propose to her again incase she wanted to be married again to which she laughed it off and said “don’t be silly”. He loved her, truely. He still calls her “my Millie” 😭

My mom died from cancer in 2014. A week before she passed my Dad (her ex) brought her a dozen roses in his finest suit and they spent hours talking together. I’ll never forget that.
