I'm confused at why people didn't think it was propaganda. I personally enjoyed the clips as escapism, but it was clearly evident as propaganda? idk why it wasn't crystal clear? the regulated voices, the sisterhood, the 100% framing everything postively, it is all calculated to pull emotional strings for peolle "desperate for niceness and kindness!!" which is fine, but it's like ...duh? It's super sanitized, the way the questions are framed, the effusive praise, even when the one sister was asked if she would teach high school and you see her really get stuck in the pause because she can't say, no she has to frame it in the affirmative so she says ".....I think I best with the middle schoolers" and the kind of self conscious laugh. so many little things are so evident and they add up. ans you have to be logical, why would the catholic church make content? sisters and nuns are dwindling in numbers in the western world, this would be GREAT recruitment. I still watch, i still like it (in minor doses), but like...duh.

a lot of people are hungry for the sort of non-coercive but deeply compassionate and inclusive spiritual "content creator" like Mr. Rogers without realizing it's sadly *much* more common for people to be manipulative with media than truly honest - spiritual people or otherwise. Thank you for your clarifying work - I had seen some clips but am naturally distrustful of anything that comes "out of the box" as totally polished and squeaky clean as they are - and that includes ofher nuns and monks I know irl of *any* religious background.

i can never trust the kind vibes….my sister is a former nun….unfortunately, the church is genuinely very patriarchal and right wing despite some turns toward vaguely being “accepting”. obviously, this does not apply to all members and liberation theology exists but historically and currently not great. growing up catholic as a queer person did a number on me. im so glad you’re reminding people about the church’s politics ♥️
