I think everyone who uses the wish dies. She also says that it was her only chance getting into a school . She could have used her wish and then later on that day got the letter in the mail .

i find it so confusing how she chose such an odd time where nikki could easily wake up from the noise and so late too. If she'd really gotten it earlier, around late afternoon was literally perfect, if not then the next morning. they are social hours and would likely not raise nikki's suspicion
