You may not be fluent in your parents language but you now have two, partially three languages that you know. I am fluent, in my opinion, of my parents Mother tongue, English, that's it. French was a language taught when I was at school but it had little relevance to anything in Australia so the best I can do now is Bonjour and Oui. So I as a one language person are a little sad that I never had that opportunity to learn another language from my heritage.🌹🌹

The Hong Kong Chinese community used to have Cantonese classes on Saturdays in Brisbane and traditional characters were taught. Not sure now.

You will overcome a lot by having a lot of family conversations and watching a lot of videos about your parents' country. Of course, you should focus more on your current life. Still, your strength is that you have three cultures and languages.

The way how I learned my parents language is my own interest in Vietnamese culture or Asian culture in general. Due to my love for Chinese dramas, hai Kich from Thuy Nga and watching media with my parents, this helps me learn the language naturally and be able to connect with my parents too.

vietnamese is such a hard language, pronunciation is so important with tones and accents. personally I would need full time school for an extended period to learn. you are right though, the time lost without the communication sadly you can't get back. Look at you,and many people in this situation are killing it! making the family so proud.How high is the price you pay?

We are different breed. As an English educated we are different because neither this or that. It get worse basically the next generation. I speak English, Bahasa Melayu, Chinese (Hakka, Cantonese and Mandarin) As a person we just make the best out of it. i took my degree in Australia. It's okay to feel different

It's the consequente of immigrants. Nothing wrong about it. If you don't speak English and integrate then there would be a problem with the locals. You need to learn aboriginal language too because English is an immigrant language, not Australian per say.
