Tip for newbies: unless you have all your pieces cut, know it all fits, and you work fast….DO NOT apply the mud (thinset mortar) on the whole section like this. It will dry before you can get to it…then you’ll have to scrape off that dry mud. Do smaller sections at a time.

Half of those tiles are gonna be falling off in a couple months because anyone who does tile knows you don't put that much thinset down. You work in small segments so the mortar doesn't begin to cure. I've seen it on tons of amateur projects.

Don’t rest tile directly on countertop. There should be a gap for grout and caulk to sit into.
