That’s so messed up. In some Asian countries, animal welfare laws and enforcement differ significantly from what we’re used to. If they were from another country, it’s also possible their views on animals were influenced by cultural or generational norms they grew up with. Of course, that doesn’t make mistreatment acceptable, but it can help explain why people’s perspectives sometimes differ.
