This is why I don’t like being alone with nurses. The amount of times they’ve taken it upon themselves to play doctor and try to decide whether I deserve the care THE ACTUAL DOCTORS ORDERED is insane. Thank god my mom is well versed in healthcare plus she’s also disabled so she always advocated for me when I couldn’t, even as an adult. Kind nurses seem to be a rare species at this point.

I am so sorry this happened to you. The amount of energy she forced you to expend as an ME/CFS patient in order to receive care is cruel. If you are comfortable sharing, what kind of infusions are you getting? I’m always looking for treatments to try for this awful disease.

Find out who her supervising physician is (it should be on the visit summary note within a couple of days of your appointment) message them directly and tell them that she was not familiar with your diagnosis and not at all prepared for your appointment. Fill out the patient survey when you receive it in your email and share your exact experience. Lastly, you should call the office explain that you were unable to complete your appointment and see when they can get you in with a different practitioner to review your meds so you can get your infusion. When you do get a new appointment message the provider ahead of time explaining your condition and that the majority of the appointment needs to be lights off so that you don’t go into a flare, in the future I suggest having the light on at the beginning of the appointment (2-3 min) so they can verify your identity and then promptly turn everything off.

Report to Mount Sinai but also the state board. You’re going to get a letter from MS (I’m sure you know this) that says “we’re so sorry you felt that way”, but you won’t be the only one who has/will report her and it adds up. Also fill out the patient satisfaction survey, they care about those.

Report to Mount Sinai, state board, and nursing union, all sent as an independent email not cc. Then request to have a patient advocate to be with you for your first couple of trips until the medical team recognizes and respects your disability accommodations.

During a video doctor appointment I mentioned how bad my head hurt and that I was light sensitive and she told me to go sit in the dark. So it’s not a big deal. Definitely a power trip. I’m so sorry you had to endure that behavior.
