Before anyone is concerned: these are domesticated African pygmy hedgehogs, not wild European hedgehogs. When ambient temperatures are safely above 24°C (75°F), short, fully supervised outdoor time is considered appropriate by many exotic veterinarians and experienced keepers as environmental enrichment. The soft elastic loop shown is not a restrictive harness and does not damage their quills when fitted correctly. With proper supervision, clean surroundings, and by preventing contact with wild animals or contaminated areas, the risk of infection is kept very low. Their welfare always comes first.
