Everyone who claims this isn't something to wish on anyone, or that we think men deserve to suffer the same way, is completely missing the point. It is not about wanting men to experience this; it is about acknowledging that they now are. Social media proves that people are easily influenced, it affects everything, and it has always been there. However, the issue is that beauty standards for women have always been treated as mere trends while being set incredibly high. Now that men are experiencing this, it is suddenly treated as a massive new deal. Yet, women have always had to deal with this because the world sets such unrealistic expectations for them. It is not okay for either men or women. But the fact that this is only being noticed as 'concerning' now that it affects men, while women have dealt with it for decades without anyone showing concern, is striking.
