I remember in HS as a sophomore massive nerd, I had a crush on a senior jock. It was obvious, but I never approached him, just looked at him way too long, giggled with friends, blushed if he looked my way. I had class with one of his best friends, the best friend pulled me aside in class one day and asked if I had a crush on the boy. I blushed and said yes. He told me, while he appreciates it, it’s a no. Crush stopped immediately. I respected the no immediately and instantly stopped those behaviors. But the whole thing made me realize both boys were good people. You don’t have to be cruel or hateful with rejection. They were kind and respectful. He wasn’t outraged at a nerd liking him, he just had a friend approach me with respect and tell me no. And I respected that no.
