As the Filipino people honour peasant month this October, we continue to stand in solidarity with Filipino farmers, peasants, and Indigenous communities as they fight against many forms of injustices including state violence, land grabbing, and exploitation. โœŠ๐Ÿฝ Filipino farmers toil under the weight of broken promises, continuing to be denied the land they've cultivated for generations. With every harvest, the sweat of Filipino peasants waters the soil, but it is the landlords and corporations who reap the bounty. Even worse, every typhoon uproots not just crops but livelihoods, and farmers are left to rebuild with little to no support. Beyond all this, the hands that feed the Filipino people are criminalized, their calls for fair wages and land rights answered with militarization and bullets. From 2022 to 2024, 72 out of the 105 victims of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines are farmers. In the Philippines, the struggle for land is a fight for life and survival. As Filipino farmers fight on the frontlines against a system that prioritizes profit over their humanity, letโ€™s ask ourselves, where do we find ourselves in this fight?
