he is protective of his little boy but he shouldn’t be so honest with him yet.

Never tell a child someone doesnt love them. They will figure it out themselves

as a child that experienced this, and whose parents didnt explain, I was left feeling very confused and alone about it. kids notice.

As a former kid, I would’ve wanted to know. Figuring it out on your own is way too painful and confusing

You guys don't give kids enough credit. whether they have the language for it or not, they understand how they're being treated and how they're feeling. You need to be upfront and honest with children. You're not protecting them, you're protecting yourself from having to have a difficult conversation.

“…you don’t know what’s in her heart.” He actually does know her heart bc she is showing it. Behavior is the loudest language

You always tell a child the truth. How can you else expect them to have trust in you.

I’d prefer my dad told me this from early on so I’m not hurt trying to force a relationship that would never work out I agree with the dad telling him

I didn't need my mom to explain that her mother didn't love us. But I appreciate that she never lied or pretended.

I always thought my grandma was nice until I stayed with her for a week due to chicken pox. She was two-faced and mean, she even called me stupid - i was only eight, how would i know how to calculate a bus fare. From then on, no more visits to grandma. I never told my mum and dad till today, am 40

As a child who experienced the same discriminatory behavior from my fathers parents I understand both sides. As I grew up I noticed that my grandparents adored my sister and didn’t want to spend time with me or show up for me and I so badly wanted someone to have my back

if it was in her heart she would not allow her feelings towards Dad to impact how she shows up for her grandson

The thing is the kid will absolutely be feeling the different way Gma treats him. And if everyone is pretending it’s not happening, it’s the most isolating and confusing feeling in the whole world. Kiddo knowing that his parents see what’s happening is absolutely needed, I think there was a way better way to address it. But if the mum won’t even acknowledge it’s happening, it’s difficult because they need to be on the same page what addressing this massive issue.
